This design is about a type of woven modular skin structure and using this structure to design corresponding interactive devices. This structure has both the visual effect of weaving and a certain degree of dynamism, enriching the morphological changes of weaving art.
The design inspiration of this work comes from the pattern structure in traditional Chinese bamboo weaving handicrafts. Through modular analysis of traditional bamboo weaving patterns such as herringbone and turtle back patterns, the graphic elements of the weaving patterns are extracted and reorganized, creating an innovative structural skin design.
The skin structure draws inspiration from the visual effects of bamboo weaving and designs a certain motion structure based on it. Through the interaction of dynamic structures, the form changes of weaving art are enriched, and the interaction between the skin and the external environment and unique light and shadow effects are displayed through the combination of device design and light.
Parameterized skin deformation and contraction under pressure
Design the assembly of each structure through the calculation of curvature and hierarchy
The skin structure uses sensors to drive the motor and suspension structure to complete the basic contraction state switch of the skin main body. As the audience approaches, the structure’s state changes are triggered. The TouchDesigner light and shadow visual design is integrated with the light and shadow of the main part of the skin itself to form the “flow shadow” in the installation, which is then combined with Kinect depth camera hardware to allow the audience to move the interactive flow of light and shadow. The changes in the skin structure itself produce different light effects, combined with the flow light projection effect, making the device close to the design theme of “Transparent Light Flow Shadow”.
