Purpose

of Cooperation

The artificial intelligence (AI) technology has brought both great challenges and opportunities to design innovation, and it is imperative to study and put into practice new design thinking, objects, tools and methods. It’s for this reason that Queen Mary University of London and Tsinghua University founded Creative AI Joint-Lab (CAI) in 2020, to explore innovated designs and methods powered by AI technology and future network technology on the basis of the cross-research methods.

DIRECTION 1: FLEXIBLE USER INTERFACES

  • Smart materials & eTextiles, sensors for dancers, toolkits and smart biomaterial for fashion designers.
  • Deformable user interfaces and flexible displays, design materials for digital music instrument designers and intelligent product designers.

DIRECTION 2: AI IN MEDIA AND DESIGN

  • Graduate students work together on AI generated narrative and AI generated music, also considering the applications in VR and multi-modal interaction, some outcomes from direction1 can be involved.
  • Joint funding proposals around tangible+flexible interfaces project and/ or AI+(VR or Multi-Modal Interaction) project, aim for substantial 2-3 year funding

DIRECTION 3: New UX and UE in global vision

  • For industry project,UX and User Experience design, including VUI, evaluation research, especially cross-cultural research such as testing User Experience in China and UK and making comparisons.
