The neurotransmitter dopamine is an important chemical in humans and other animals that plays a key regulatory role in the nervous system. Dopamine plays an important role in our physical and mental health, so popularizing dopamine is of great significance in increasing people’s understanding of healthy lifestyle and improving quality of life.

In this paper, the principle of the action of neurotransmitter dopamine, the relationship between dopamine and brain reward system, and its influence on human behavior and life are summarized. Combined with the current social environment and the preferences of young groups, the analysis is finally completed to complete the design of popular science books on the neurotransmitter dopamine. The final design results include: a popular science book called The Dopamine Letters, an animated video and presentation in different media. Popular science books take the form of letters as the main concept, combined with the expression techniques of information visualization and illustration design to interpret popular science information, and animated video interpretation to help people better contact and understand dopamine in the multimedia platform.

In the process of design practice, a popular science design exploration of the integration of humanistic, artistic and scientific thinking was carried out. Based on the most representative desire circuit of dopamine, an epistolary popular science book on the journey of dopamine delivery was created, the application method of empathy-based design theory in popular science design was explored, and the relevant research methods were explored in practice.
