Smart material is a new type of material, which is widely used in military, medical, architectural and other fields. Smart materials can be classified into temperature-sensitive materials, photosensitive materials, pressure-sensitive materials and other categories. They can sense the environment at all times and change their structure (molecular structure, etc.) 、performance and state according to the state of the external environment. To be specific, smart materials can detect external signals, such as heat, light, force and electricity, and when the external signals change, they can change their states in response. Smart materials have three elements: biological sensing, drivable and controllable. At the same time, they have seven functions, such as sensing function, feedback function, information recognition and accumulation function, response function, self-diagnosis ability, self-repair ability and self-adaptation ability[1] . These characteristics make it one of the most popular and promising areas of research in the 21st century, representing the forefront of materials science.
The field studied in this paper is thermochromic materials. Taking thermochromic powder as an example, it is a kind of microcapsuled material that can change color with temperature. It has the advantages of obvious discoloration, stable performance, mature technology, safety and non-toxicity, etc. At present, it is widely used in the field of industry and clothing. However, the public is not familiar with the characteristics, principle and application prospect of this material. In view of this problem, this popular science design aims to help the public understand cutting-edge technology, improve the national quality, and then promote the application and popularization of related intelligent materials. In the early stage, we conducted material property research and hybrid testing, trying to explore the possibility of new applications of thermochromic materials, and seeking innovative design directions. On this basis, we further explored the change rules of molecules in the material microcapsules when the temperature changes, and displayed them in the form of infographics. After repeated discussion, the author finally decided to take clothing as the final form of expression, and take the sheet material mixed by temperature-changing material and resin media as the basic material, and then cut and shape it with high temperature to form the overall shape of neck accessories. The characteristic is that after the human body wears the accessory, the accessory can sense the temperature of the body, and the color of it will change accordingly. The design is an exploration of the possibilities of intelligent accessory in the future.
